If you are considering re-insulating the exterior walls of your home with RetroFoam insulation, you’ve probably wondered what it is made of.

We get asked this question a lot here at RetroFoam of Michigan, and we like to answer it in a way that is easy for everyone to understand.

Below is a simple explanation of what RetroFoam insulation is and the makeup and properties of the injection foam. Or, if you enjoy reading highly technical documents, you can check out our product tech and safety data sheets.

What is RetroFoam Insulation?

RetroFoam injection foam insulation is a fantastic solution for insulating those hard-to-reach cavities in your home, like enclosed walls or concrete walls, where you might have to do a lot of demolition to see inside and reinsulate them.

RetroFoam stands out because of the air seal it creates in those exterior walls. This air barrier defends your home against unwanted air movement in and out, helping to maintain a constant and comfortable indoor climate. Additionally, it provides significant resistance to heat flow, enhancing your home's thermal efficiency.

These qualities combine to elevate your living space, making it not just more comfortable but significantly more energy-efficient.

Now, let's delve into what exactly makes up RetroFoam insulation to get a better understanding of how it works and why it is a superior wall insulation option.

What is RetroFoam Insulation Made Of?

RetroFoam insulation is made from a tri-polymer blend of dry powder resin.

As the resin mixes with a foaming agent and water in the trailer, it transforms into RetroFoam insulation. Initially having a shaving cream-like consistency, it will fill all the nooks and crannies and make its way between wires and pipes when injected into existing walls.

Upon curing, it transforms into a semi-rigid plastic solid, becoming an effective product for re-insulating and air sealing existing concrete block walls, reducing drafts, energy bills, and airborne noise.

Is Foam Insulation Safe to Have in Your Home?

We've answered what is insulation foam made of, but does that make RetroFoam safe to have in the home?

RetroFoam does not have an odor, and there is no off-gassing when installed. It is hypoallergenic, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly, and it has a Class 1 Fire Rating.

RetroFoam insulation even blocks allergens and pollutants from entering the home through the exterior walls.
