Being a homeowner comes with all the ups and downs you can imagine.

From the keys being placed in your hands for the first time high to the first winter pipes freeze and burst -- lo there is no lack of excitement in either situation.

While being a homeowner comes with many responsibilities that can be stressful and hard on our soul there are also many things out there today that can make these responsibilities seem less daunting.

With the holiday season beginning tomorrow with Thanksgiving, it seems only fitting to list four things that homeowners can be thankful for.

4 of Things Homeowners Can Be Thankful For

From technological advances to staying warm and cozy, here are just a few of the things homeowners can be thankful for.

Video Doorbells

A video doorbell can give you peace of mind for your family’s safety, as well as making sure no porch pirates make off with gifts that are delivered.

Here’s how it works.

Once installed, a video doorbell can be programmed through your mobile device. You will be notified when someone is at your door or if motion is detected.

Depending on the specific brand you choose, you can even have a pre-recorded message or video that will help deter any would-be burglars. A video doorbell also provides a clear statement to a burglar and can discourage them to attempt breaking into your home.

Programmable Thermostats800x684_Thermostat_jpg-300x257

Programmable thermostats are a very useful energy efficient option for the home.

They can help save you money on energy bills every month by keeping a more consistent temperature which means less time adjusting back and forth.

Many of the newer thermostats can also be controlled by your mobile device even from another location.

Window Plastic, Draft Stoppers, and Pipe Wrap

Harsh cold winters can get the best of any homeowner and their energy bills.

Window plastic, draft stoppers, and pipe wrap can help combat the cold, drafts, and freezing pipes. All three products are fairly inexpensive, which makes them easy to get and use.

Window plastic is secured with provided tape in the kit you purchase. Then you just use a blow dryer to shrink and tighten the plastic to keep the cold from coming through.

Draft stoppers are great for sliding under main doors to keep cold air from coming into your home. You can find these at most stores, or you can order them online.

If you have pipes that freeze every year like a lot of homeowners, pipe wrap is also available at most hardware stores and is easy to use.

Foam insulation is a great way to upgrade your home to be more energy efficient.

While it can be a bigger investment it is always worth it in the end. It can eliminate many of your drafts through the home, cut down on airborne noise, reduces allergens, and won't breakdown or lose its value over time.

Many energy providers also grant rebates for their customers who upgrade their insulation and thermostats.

Being Thankful for Not Just a House, But a Home

Lastly, grab the tissues while we get sappy here. 1000x604_WarmHouse.jpg-300x181-1

Being a homeowner does not just mean you have a house. It means that you have something to call your own. It means you have a safe place to wake up to every morning and come home to every night. It could be the place that you build your life with the ones you love to make your home.

We hope this list can help you this holiday season.

Maybe it gave you ideas for what your home needs. Maybe it sparked the perfect gift idea for a loved one, just saying I'd love a video doorbell. Whatever the case we all wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with your loved ones.
